Francisco Rodriguez will go into free agency this winter, likely with a major league record for saves in one season in tow. For the Angels, a decision on re-signing K-Rod is just one of many that will prove difficult as they put together a roster for the 2009 season.
One National League general manager told the Boston Globe that he would be surprised if the Angels did not end up re-signing Rodriguez - given some of the contracts that closers have received recently, a deal could be in the neighborhood of four years and $15 million-plus.
”There’s no doubt some team is going to throw a zillion dollars at him,” said a National League general manager. “If they do, how can you blame them? He’s been one of the premier guys for a long time.
“I think you always worry about durability over the long haul, but I’d be surprised if the Angels didn’t re-up.”
