The Angels continued to whittle away at their arbitration list by agreeing to terms on a one-year contract with utility man Robb Quinlan.
Quinlan will get a slight raise over the $1.05 million he made last season to $1.1 million with similiar incentives for plate appearances. Quinlan, 31, hit .262 in 68 games last season and has a .285 career average with 23 home runs and 105 RBIs in his three big-league seasons.
That leaves two arbitration cases for the Angels �" infielder Maicer Izturis and right-hander Ervin Santana.
A year ago, the Angels cut Santana’s salary by $5,000 (to $420,000) when he didn’t accept their original tendered offer. This year, Santana figures to get a big raise after going 16-7 with a 3.49 ERA in 2008. He finished fourth in the AL in innnings pitched, second in strikeouts and fourth in average against (.237).
