*I will be doing one of these for EVERY team except for the Angels. Doing one of these for
the Angels will seem to re-emphasize what we already know. You won't see me posting
10 teams a day either, I will try to be detailed with each one and I will only do these on
my free time (conveniently the weekend is approaching). Feel free to say how bad I
did after reading
.
The advantage the Yankees have is their extremely large payroll.
However, it has been shown that doesn't guarantee you a play-off spot.
1. Offense
Not much to work on here. They have a great offense with a lot of power. One question I would raise here is what are they going to do with 1st base? Resign Giambi? I would think they want to pursuit someone like Teixeira.
2. Pitching
Part of the reason they did not pitch well is due to injuries. Regardless, they could use a couple quality pitchers, especially with Mussina bound to retire soon. The Yankees have already placed an offer to CC Sabathia and have shown interest in Derek Lowe, AJ Burnett and even Jake Peavy. Although the offer to CC is WAY overboard, they are making a good decision in acquiring a quality ace pitcher. I would bet the Yanks are going to have improved in pitching next year.
3. Fielding
The Yankees were ranked 28th in fielding pct. Maybe in spring camp they should emphasize fundamentals a little more.
4. Other
Some teams are going to have this section and some teams won't. In this case I am not putting one up for the Yankees.
