Call me crazy, but tell me this wouldn't work.

What I am about to propose may be heart-breaking, insulting, psychotic, I don't know. This would require letting go of the following players:

  1. Darren Oliver

  2. Francisco Rodriguez

  3. Jon Garland

  4. Garret Anderson

  5. Juan Rivera

and this one might depress you....

  1. Vladimir Guerrero

Now that I have you attention...here is how this would work. We have Vlad's 15 million, Garland's 12 million, K-Rod's 10 million, Garret Anderson's 12.6 million, Rivera's 2 million, Oliver's 2 million and maybe some extra mercy from Arte Moreno.

Combining all of that, we get around 53.6 million to spend. Of course we want Teixeira, he is a consistent bat, has a good eye, a gold glove infielder and is still in his 20's. To pay him, we might need to cover 20 million or even more, thought I highly doubt it. So lets say we were able to sign him for....23 million per year. That leaves us with a little over 30m left to spend. I would consider throwing 20m+ of this to a player called.......Manny Ramirez. If it takes 40-45 million to secure Teixeira and Manny, we still have around 10 million to spare. Which means, we could resign someone like Garret Anderson, or even Vlad is he takes a major pay cut.

The fact of the matter is...we play great in the regular season, but come postseason time, we choke (mainly to the Red Sox). To me there isn't a chance we could have Vlad, Teixeira and Manny on the same team...There will be other teams that will as well throw out 20m for Tex, 20m for Manny. We have to make an offer that dominates and secures superstar talents like these 2 players. Basically it boils down to whether you would like to have Manny Ramirez on the team, or Vladimir Guerrero. Who would you consider healthier? Who would you rely on come postseason time to get that game-winning hit (particularly a home run)? I am sorry, but I would put my money on Manny. I don't think Manny wants to go back to a team like the Red Sox or the Yankees. He wants to feel more relaxed in the sense that he isn't being analyzed by a microscope on his every move. Scott Boras is the agent of both Manny and Tex. He lives in Newport Beach, Orange County. He comes to Angel games all the time. How more convenient could it get than that? Just something about the Teixeira-Manny duo sounds freakishly awesome to me. Please tell me what you guys think.

Well I agree with some points. Unfortunately, we are not the GMs.

lol

We would be a dangerous team. Manny would be out in LF, Torii in CF, and Vlad in RF.

Think about that. Do you notice the same thing I do?

These players are old now. Who will be in our OF in the future?

I would like to keep Oliver though. He proved himself with the Angels for the past 2 years. I dont like the idea of Shields, Jepsen/Bulger as our relievers.

In my opinion, the best salary to part with is Gary Matthews, we severely overpaid him. Unfortunately, I do not think anyone wants him...

clipnasty has a great point.

He is just eating up some very valuable and needed money

I think that what we need most is a veteran SS.

As an Angel fan, I hate to say this but screw Aybar. He stunk in the ALDS.

I love the ideas of having these vets:

Edgar Renteria .270 10HR 55RBI

O.C. Orlando Cabrera Razz

.281 8HR 57RBI

Out of them, I like OC. Fan favorite. Proven clutch hitter, and great defensively.

We traded him for GARLAND?

I like the idea of reclaiming OC.

We obviously need him back,

The trade for Garland was a bust

Unfortunately, I do not think OC is coming back. Izturis is our SS, not aybar. That being said, I am not sold on Izturis either. We are close, very close, to the best team in the league, by far. We have a few bad pieces, but compared to many teams, we do not have many bad salaries. This summer should be fun.
